Privacy Policy
BudgetingApps.org ("we", "us") is a website that reviews and compares budgeting apps. This policy explains what information we handle when you use the site. The short version: readers can browse without an account, we use no advertising or analytics cookies, and we never sell personal information.
Information we collect
When you browse
- Server logs. Like most websites, our web server records basic request data: IP address, the page requested, date and time, referring page and browser user agent. We use it to keep the site running, secure and free of abuse. Logs are rotated automatically and kept for a short period (typically days to a few weeks).
- Preferences stored in your browser. Your light/dark theme and the apps you add to a comparison are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and you can clear them at any time in your browser settings.
We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, tracking pixels or cross-site trackers.
When you sign in as an app owner
- Email address, to send you a one-time sign-in link and to verify you represent an app.
- A session cookie (
ba_session), a strictly necessary cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It is HttpOnly and is used only by this site. - Claim and listing details you submit, such as which app you manage and the listing edits you make.
- Billing records for paid plans. Payments are handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.
How we use information
- To operate, secure and improve the site.
- To sign app owners in, verify listing claims and provide paid listing features.
- To respond when you contact us.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
Links to other sites and affiliate links
Reviews link to the apps' own websites, and some of those links are affiliate links. When you click one, the app's site may learn that you came from BudgetingApps.org (for example through a referral parameter) and may set its own cookies. Their privacy policies, not ours, govern what they collect. We do not receive your personal information from those sites.
Sharing
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only:
- with service providers that help us run the site (hosting, email delivery, payment processing), under obligations to protect it;
- if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users, the public or the site.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept briefly and then deleted. Owner account information is kept while the account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards for records and billing. Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and sessions after 30 days. You can ask us to delete your owner account at any time.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@budgetingapps.org. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EEA/UK), you may have additional rights, which we honor. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
Children
The site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Sign-in tokens and sessions are stored hashed. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.
Changes
We may update this policy. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.
