Overview

Still Within is an iPhone/iPad app that lets you create a budget envelope for any timeframe (a trip, a season, a year, or no dates) and log expenses against it. Data stays on the device with no account, cloud or analytics. It is free for up to five active envelopes, with a one-time purchase to remove that cap.

Best for: People who want simple, private, offline budgets for trips or one-off spending goals on iPhone

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Envelopes can span any date range, so trip costs paid months ahead are captured in one budget.
  • Fully local: no account, cloud, or analytics; App Store privacy label says no data collected.
  • Foreign-currency expenses are tracked alongside their home-currency cost.
  • Split-bill entries count only your share and track pending settlements.
  • Math can be typed into amount fields; all data exports to CSV.
  • Free for up to 5 active envelopes; one-time $4.99 purchase unlocks unlimited, no subscription.

Cons

  • iOS/iPadOS only; no web, Android or desktop version. The App Store listing requires iOS/iPadOS 26.2 or later, so phones that cannot run it are out.
  • No sync between devices (a deliberate result of local-only storage), so a lost phone means lost data unless exported or backed up by the device.
  • No bank connection or statement import; every expense is entered by hand.
  • Free tier capped at 5 active envelopes (active and upcoming count; ended and archived do not).
  • Young app: first released 2026-07-08, one update (1.0.1, 2026-07-12) and no App Store ratings yet, so there is little track record.
  • Very little independent feedback found; the only public write-up located is the developer's own launch post.

Our review

Short version

Still Within is an iPhone/iPad app that lets you create a budget envelope for any timeframe (a trip, a season, a year, or no dates) and log expenses against it. Data stays on the device with no account, cloud or analytics. It is free for up to five active envelopes, with a one-time purchase to remove that cap.

Research-based profile, not hands-on testing. Refreshed on 2026-10-07 from the vendor site, privacy policy, support FAQ and App Store listing. I did not sign up, start a trial or connect a bank.

What is distinct

Most envelope tools assume a monthly cycle. Here each envelope has its own dates (or none), so a trip paid for months ahead lands in one budget instead of being split across calendar months. Expenses paid by card, bank transfer or cash all go to the same envelope. The developer's stated aim is to answer one question: am I still within the budget I set for this?

Features seen in the vendor's own pages

  • Colour progress bars and over-budget warnings
  • Foreign-currency expenses shown next to their home-currency cost
  • Shared expenses: your envelope counts only your share, and pending settlements are tracked
  • Math typed into the amount field, refunds, notes, free-text categories
  • CSV export per envelope or for everything

Cost

  • Free for up to 5 active envelopes (active and upcoming envelopes count; ended and archived ones do not, per the support FAQ).
  • One-time 'Still Within Premium' purchase for unlimited envelopes: $4.99 per the developer's launch post; the US App Store page lists an in-app purchase but the price was not shown in the page data I could read. No subscription.

Privacy

The privacy policy (effective 2026-07-02) says nothing is collected, there are no analytics or third-party SDKs, and the only network traffic is Apple's StoreKit for the purchase. The App Store label reads 'Data Not Collected'. Those are developer-declared claims; I could not audit the app. The flip side: no sync, and the data lives in device backups only.

Maturity

First released 2026-07-08 by a single developer, with one update (1.0.1, 2026-07-12: a share-link tweak and an occasional rating prompt). The App Store has no ratings yet and the listing requires iOS/iPadOS 26.2 or later. About three months without a further release is not worrying for an app this small, but there is no track record yet.

Not confirmed

Recurring budgets or rollover; charts or reports beyond quick stats; import of existing data; independent reviews (only the developer's own launch post turned up in search); an Android or web version (none announced on the pages I read).

Notes

Correct site is stillwithin.app. A Reddit launch post by the developer appeared in search but cannot be opened by my tools, so I only read its search excerpt.

Ratings are set separately against a shared rubric.
