## Summary

Rocket Money (formerly Truebill, part of Rocket Companies) links accounts to find recurring subscriptions, track spending, set category budgets and monitor credit and net worth. Cancellation help, net worth, unlimited budgets and automated savings need Premium; an AI assistant needs Premium+. It is closer to a bill and subscription manager than a full budgeting system.

**Best for:** People who mainly want to find and cancel subscriptions and lower bills, with light budgeting on the side.

## Our review

### Short version

Rocket Money (formerly Truebill, part of Rocket Companies) links your accounts to find recurring subscriptions, track spending, set category budgets and watch credit and net worth. Its best-known extras are paid: cancelling subscriptions for you, negotiating bills and an AI assistant. It is closer to a bill and subscription manager than a full budgeting system.

**Research-based profile, not hands-on.** Written on 2026-09-30 from the vendor's home, security, FAQ, pricing-guide and help pages, the App Store and Google Play listings, and published reviews. I did not sign up, start a trial or connect a bank.

### How it budgets

Budgets are spending limits by category, with alerts as you approach them. There is no envelope or zero-based method. The free plan allows up to 3 category budgets. Premium removes that limit and adds savings goals that move small amounts into an FDIC-insured account, which the vendor says depends on your cash flow. I found no scheduled-transaction planner or debt payoff planner on the vendor pages, so I have not listed them. The vendor's AI assistant, Rowan, is part of Premium+ and can build or adjust budgets by text message, per the vendor.

### Cost

- **Free:** account linking, subscription detection, spending tracking and balance alerts.

- **Premium:** pay what you choose, in a range of about $7 to $14 a month, which the vendor says may change. I could not find a fixed annual price, and the vendor's /pricing page returned a not-found error. Premium covers cancellation help, net worth, unlimited budgets, goals, account sharing and credit reports. A 7-day trial is reported by reviewers.

- **Premium+:** a fixed $15 a month. It adds Rowan and bill negotiation with no success fee.

- **Bill negotiation:** on Free and Premium you pay 35% to 60% of the first year's savings if it succeeds.

- Prices can differ by platform, per the vendor help center.

### What stands out

- **Subscription focus.** It scans linked accounts for recurring charges, and Premium members can ask it to cancel. A CNET reviewer says it worked quickly for straightforward services, while other reviews say it is weaker for subscriptions billed through a third party.

- **Credit and net worth in one app.** Premium shows a weekly credit score from Experian and full credit reports, plus net worth.

- **AI assistant.** Rowan works by text message on Premium+: questions about your money, recategorizing, reminders and cancellation requests.

### Getting data in and out

- **In:** I found no file import. Manual transactions can be added by Premium users, in the mobile app only.

- **Out:** transactions can be exported as a CSV with filters. The file arrives as an emailed link and can only be opened on a desktop or laptop. The help article does not say which plan includes export, so I have not assumed one.

### Privacy and security

The vendor says bank logins go straight to Plaid, or Akoya for Fidelity, and are never stored by Rocket Money. It says data is encrypted with TLS in transit and 256-bit AES at rest, that outside auditors review its practices and that it runs a bug bounty. I found no audit report. You can unlink accounts and delete your account, which removes associated data. A Do Not Sell or Share link is published, and the vendor's wording on selling data is hedged and points to its privacy policy, so read that policy if it matters to you.

### What people say

Store ratings are large and steady: about 4.5 from 394.5K ratings on the App Store, and about 4.5 from 140K reviews with 10M+ downloads on Google Play. Reviews from CNBC, CNET and FinanceBuzz are generally positive about subscription finding and ease of use. Outside the stores the picture is more mixed. Review sites that summarize Trustpilot and Better Business Bureau feedback report a lower rating, roughly 3.5 to 3.9 depending on the source and date, with complaints about surprise charges, hard-to-cancel plans, bill negotiation fees, bank-sync errors and slow support. I could not check those pages directly. The vendor's 'thousands of 5 star reviews' and its self-published 'best app' guides are vendor-hosted, so I did not count them.

### Not confirmed

A fixed annual price, which tier includes CSV export, file import, debt payoff planning, multi-currency budgeting, and the Android release date.

### Who it suits

- People whose main goal is finding and cutting subscriptions and recurring bills.

- Newcomers who want simple category limits with alerts.

- Anyone who wants credit score and net worth in the same app as spending.

### Who might look elsewhere

- Anyone who wants an envelope or zero-based method.

- Anyone who does not want to link bank accounts or wants a fixed, published price.

- Anyone who wants a free plan with more than 3 budgets.

### Notes

The vendor says it was founded as Truebill in 2015 and renamed Rocket Money in 2022. Ratings are set separately against a shared rubric.
