## Our review

### Short version

Purpose Budget is a zero-based envelope budgeting service for web, iPhone and Android. You assign income to categories, and credit-card spending moves the funded amount into a payment category. It also documents category targets, scheduled transactions, reports, net worth tracking, goals and debt-payoff tools. Premium adds Plaid bank sync and automated bill detection; manual entry and CSV import/export are available without it.

**Research-based profile, not hands-on testing.** Updated 2026-10-12 from public vendor documentation and store listings. I did not create an account, start a trial or connect a bank.

### Cost

Essential is $2.99/month; Premium is $8.99/month. Apple lists annual in-app purchases at $24.99 (Essential) and $69.99 (Premium). The vendor's pricing page currently advertises 50% off the first year but presents annual prices only through its billing toggle, so confirm the checkout amount before purchase. The vendor's older public Reddit pricing post quoted Premium at $89/year; current App Store pricing is $69.99/year.

New customers are offered a 60-day trial without a credit card.

### What stands out

Purpose's credit-card protection reserves only the amount already budgeted for eligible purchases, rather than treating card spending as extra available cash. Separate Spaces allow multiple budgets, while shared access supports couples. Official guides also describe plan checks, forecasting, debt payoff strategies and reconciliation. The app's own features are more developed than the existing short listing suggested.

### Platforms and privacy

The vendor offers web, iOS and Android apps. Apple lists one rating (5.0); Google Play showed 10+ downloads and an update dated September 16, 2026. Those are small public feedback samples. The privacy policy, last updated September 26, 2026, says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, usage analytics are linked to accounts, and personal information is not sold. Plaid handles bank connections when a user opts in.

### What to weigh

Bank sync and automatic recurring-bill detection require Premium. The annual Premium price differs between an older vendor post and today's App Store listing. Store ratings and independent user reporting remain limited, and research here is documentation-based rather than hands-on.

### Bottom line

A capable, multi-platform envelope system with useful planning and debt tools documented beyond the initial listing. Check current annual checkout pricing and decide whether automatic bank sync is worth the Premium tier.
