## Our review

### Short version

Kontu is a web app for planning a month before it happens: list expected income and expenses, then assign what is left to allocations such as an emergency fund or a trip. Separate project budgets have a target and itemized costs. Budgets can be shared by email invitation, and transactions can be entered in over 150 currencies with totals in one main currency. It does not require a bank connection.

**Research-based profile, not hands-on testing.** Checked public vendor pages on 2026-10-10; I did not create an account, start a trial or enter any data.

### What is different

Kontu combines forward-looking monthly planning with separate one-off project budgets. Its public page also describes multi-currency entry and shared budgets. Whether actual spending is reconciled against plan with per-category remaining balances is not documented.

### Cost

The current landing page lists a free plan with one active budget, analytics, any currency and templates. It advertises $54 for lifetime access with unlimited budgets, collaboration and priority support. The currency is not otherwise identified. This conflicts with the Terms, last updated Aug 22, 2026, which describe monthly or annual subscriptions. The page's billing selector still shows monthly/yearly/lifetime but publishes no other amounts. No trial terms were confirmed.

### Privacy

The privacy policy (updated Aug 22, 2026) says data is not sold or used to train AI models. Usage analytics and session recording run only with consent; recordings mask monetary amounts but can capture budget names, transaction descriptions and notes. Data is hosted in AWS US East and PlanetScale. Every shared-budget member can see names, email addresses and all planning data; if the owner closes their account, that budget is deleted for everyone. No user-facing two-factor option or independent security audit is documented.

### Who it suits

People who like to plan ahead, want separate project budgets or need multiple currencies, and are comfortable entering figures manually. It will frustrate anyone who needs automatic transaction imports or a native mobile app.

### Not confirmed

Monthly and annual prices (the current landing page and older Terms conflict), currency denomination of the $54 lifetime price, trial, data export format, mobile app, import, per-category actual-spending tracking, scheduled items, reconciliation and release cadence.

### Bottom line

A forward-planning tool with useful project budgets, collaboration and currency support. The newly published free tier and lifetime offer improve price visibility, but the Terms have not caught up, and the public product track record remains thin. Ratings are set separately against a shared rubric.
