> Count-up budgeting app that adds a daily allowance to each category, with AI tips.

## Summary

BuoyAI is an early-stage budgeting app where each category earns a small daily allowance, unspent money builds up and you spend from what has accumulated. It syncs US bank accounts through Plaid, categorizes transactions with AI, tracks subscriptions and savings goals, and adds streaks, badges and a monthly recap. It runs on web and Android; an iOS app is described as pending.

**Best for:** People who find countdown-style budgets discouraging and want a gamified daily-allowance approach with bank sync.

- Plaid bank sync with AI categorization (rules first, then bank category, then AI) and subscription detection
- Savings goals, streaks, badges, levels and daily challenges for people who like game-style feedback
- Privacy policy says data is not sold, AI is opt-in per platform, and account deletion works in the app or via a web page
- Passkey or authenticator-app protection offered before a bank is linked, per the Play listing
- Pricing is published on the site, with two tiers and a no-card trial
- Family sharing on Premium with owner, admin, member and read-only roles
- Android app keeps recent data on the phone so budgets open offline

## Cons

- Both plans are paid, with no free tier after the trial; Standard is $10/month or $100/year
- iOS app not found on the App Store; the site says it is in review, and the roadmap still lists native apps as in progress
- Very early product: Google Play shows 10+ downloads and very little independent feedback was found
- Bank sync is via Plaid and the vendor says US banks only, so coverage is limited
- Data export is by emailing the vendor, not self-serve, as far as the privacy policy shows
- Solo, part-time developer per the vendor's own story page, so long-term support is a risk to weigh
- AI features send data to a third-party AI provider (Google Gemini) once you opt in

## Our review

### Short version

BuoyAI is an early-stage budgeting app where each category earns a small daily allowance, unspent money builds up and you spend from what has accumulated. It syncs US bank accounts through Plaid, categorizes transactions with AI, tracks subscriptions and savings goals, and adds streaks, badges and a monthly recap. It runs on web and Android; iOS is not yet on the App Store.

**Research-based profile, not hands-on testing.** Refreshed on 2026-10-06 from the vendor site, privacy policy, roadmap and the Google Play listing. I did not sign up, start a trial or connect a bank.

### How the method works

A $300 dining budget does not hand you $300 on day one; it earns $10 a day, so you have $100 by day 10. Leftovers can roll over, move to a savings goal or reset. Count-up and ordinary categories can sit in the same budget, which makes it easier to adopt gradually. Transactions are sorted by your own rules first, then the bank's category, then AI.

### Cost

- Standard: $10/mo or $100/yr

- Premium: $15/mo or $150/yr (adds AI chat, family sharing, connecting your own AI assistant)

- Trial: 30 days, no card (the site's exit pop-up offers 60 days for an email address; I did not test it)

- No free tier after the trial.

### Platforms and sync

Web and Android are live. The home page says iOS is in App Store review, but I could not find it on the App Store, and the roadmap lists native iOS and Android apps as still in progress, so the vendor's own pages disagree. Bank sync is Plaid only, with US banks, and the roadmap lists other providers as something it is exploring. The Android app keeps recent data on the phone for offline use.

### Privacy

The policy (last updated 2026-09-26) says bank access is read-only, data is not sold, and data is encrypted in transit and at rest. AI features go to Google Gemini only after you agree on a permission screen. Accounts can be deleted in the app or on a web page; a full data export has to be requested by email. The Play listing mentions passkey or authenticator protection before a bank is linked. None of this has been independently audited as far as I could find.

### Who it suits

People who find countdown budgets discouraging and like game-style feedback. Less suited to anyone who needs iOS today, a free plan, non-US bank coverage, or a vendor with a long track record: this is a solo, part-time project (per its own story page) with 10+ Play downloads.

### Not confirmed

Founding year; CSV import; reporting depth, bill reminders, debt payoff, multi-currency; Play Store rating; iOS release date; independent reviews (very little found).

### Notes

Family sharing and AI chat are Premium.

Ratings are set separately against a shared rubric.
